The Story Behind The Joyful Bower
A sheltered place of
beauty, joy, and rest.
I created The Joyful Bower for you.
For us.
There is a pace to life now that can leave us feeling hurried, distracted… and quietly worn down.
We’re surrounded by so much—so many voices, choices, and things competing for our attention—that even deciding where to begin can feel overwhelming. And sometimes, it feels easier to simply step away from it all.
It becomes easy to move through our days without really seeing—without pausing long enough to notice the beauty that surrounds us, and the way it is meant to nourish us.
And yet, something in us still responds to beauty.
Still longs for it.
Still recognizes it when we slow down enough to receive it.
Still knows we need it.
As Dostoyevsky wrote, “Beauty will save the world.”
Not as something superficial, but as a pathway back—
to what is true, to what is good, and to what restores us.
This is what led me to create The Joyful Bower.
The Essence of the Bower
This is a place to remember that you are made for beauty—and that creating a beautiful life is within your reach,
starting right where you are.
The Joyful Bower—a sheltered place of beauty, joy, and rest—is an invitation to step away from overwhelm and into encounters with beauty that can transform you. It’s a place where we open the door wide to beauty, letting it flood in and fill us so deeply that it flows into every corner of our lives and out into the world around us.
Through simple encounters with nature and art, we’re discovering that the peace and joy we long for are already waiting in the beauty all around us.
Because here’s what I’ve come to believe…
Beauty is a lifeline.
The more beauty we allow to fill us,
the more beauty we begin to carry.
And the more beauty we carry,
the more beauty we quietly shine
into the world.
Creating a beautiful life.
Not perfect. Not polished.
But real. Grounded. Luminous with grace.
Hi, I’m Donna! I’m an artist and occasional writer, and I created The Joyful Bower to share how even the humblest encounters with beauty continue to transform my life—and how they can gently do the same for you, bringing more peace and joy.
Since I was a little girl, nature has been my teacher. It’s where I go to breathe again—to notice God’s presence woven through sunrise light on morning dew, clouds drifting across the blue sky, and the steady rhythm of the seasons. These moments aren’t just lovely experiences; they’re transforming. They’ve taught me how to see more deeply, how to receive, how to rest in a beauty that asks nothing of me but my attention.
My art grows out of these moments of simply being and noticing—an overflow of the joy, and wonder that nature offers so freely. Creating has become my way of saying thank you, of offering gratitude, and of inviting others to pause, see, and be refreshed too.
The Joyful Bower isn’t about adding more to our already-full plates. It’s about remembering what nourishes us. It’s about coming home to a slower, more spacious way of being.
